Chris Winters began recording with a few select musicians in early 2002 and one year later, the self-released CD Chris Winters“Impresseions’ entered the musical horizon. A few years later the Blujazz label released “Impressions” garnering much acclaim in and around the public radio jazz circles in Canada and the US.
The Chris Winters Band has performed across the Chicago area at a wide number of clubs and festivals including The Old Town School of Folk Music Jazz Festival, the Evanston Illinois Summer Concert Series, and as of recently, Rockford Illinois Concerts in the Park.
The band plays primarily instrumental music, with Chris on guitar and a small host of members that rotate according to availability and planetary alignments. They include drummers Larry Beers, Dan Leali, and Mark Gratama, bassists Steve Howard, Brian Sandstrom, and Mitch Straeffer, and keyboardists Paul Coscino and John Katke. All Chicago based.
The music on “Impressions” has been described as bluesy jazz, or jazzy blues, with some jazzy funk too. A new CD is scheduled to be recorded soon, with some rock, prog rock, jam and funk elements all in the mix.
